The partnership will provide Kudos a first look on future UK based projects originated by Steven Knight and aims to develop a scripted production pipeline which will be plugged into Kudos’ creative and production infrastructure and use Knight’s Digbeth Loc. Studios as its hub.
The new partnership is committed to substantial long-term financial investment in skills and training in the West Midlands with the ambition of growing the local workforce, incubating talent and generating a thriving scripted production pipeline in Birmingham.

About this role:
This key role will support the Kudos-Knight Senior Management Team in developing and implementing the strategic aims of the Partnership, championing diversity and inclusion throughout.
As part of this partnership, we want to work with emerging local voices and proven writers to develop a vibrant drama slate to be produced in Birmingham.
To enable this, we want to recruit a Development Producer who will identify, nurture and fast – track emerging local writers as well as established writers and will work with the Kudos Creative Team to develop their projects and get them greenlit.
We will establish a permanent place of business for the Kudos-Knight Partnership in Digbeth, from where the Development Producer will operate.
The Development Producer will work closely with local partners, develop and run initiatives and lead on key projects to identify the best regional talent and build the Kudos-Knight slate.
Duties:
Identify, develop and monitoring writing talent in the West Midlands/Birmingham including both new and more experienced writers, and facilitating ways to bring those talented individuals into the Partnership.
This will be achieved through a range of initiatives which could include public and targeted events, workshops, festivals, professional training and shadow schemes, as well as by maintaining a comprehensive database of West Midlands/ Birmingham writers, and offering them appropriate support as necessary.
Work with external cultural organisations including theatres and screen agencies to generate partnership projects to develop new writers and broaden the diversity of writer talent base, with a particular emphasis on writers born in, or living in, the West Midlands.
Design and lead on key projects in the West Midlands/Birmingham, this could include: a writing Fellowship in conjunction with stakeholder such as Birmingham Rep, Belgrade Theatre and/or The Royal Shakespeare Company; and a Screenwriting Fellowship working with industry partners to devise a West Midlands focused scheme with Steve Knight and other prominent writers form the region.
Acting as an internal agent, liaising with and influencing key figures in different Kudos and Banijay departments and ensuring regular communication and exchange of information.
Being an ambassador for the Kudos-Knight Partnership. This may include speaking at large events both internal and external to the Banijay Group, running professional masterclasses and workshops, and contributing to social media platforms.
Critically evaluating ideas, scripts and writers against a variety of criteria and making judgment on their potential, applying an in-depth understanding of commercial demands as well as creative considerations.
Work as an effective member of the wider Kudos Creative Team to find innovative ways to generate new IP and work with talent in order to develop exceptional ideas for Kudos which can be given to new and established writers.
Communicate and meet with Agents, Writers, Producers, Directors: showing a high level of awareness of the television market in the UK and internationally, and articulate the current development needs of Kudos.
Write high quality programme specs/pitch documents.
Work with the team of Executive Producers at Kudos, nurturing creative partnerships.
Read submissions, champion excellent writing and have the conviction to know when a project isn’t right for Kudos, write rejections with tact and keeping the door open for future relationships.
Search out and assess potential opportunities for book adaptations.
Empower and enable talent from all backgrounds to create work they want and need and deserve to make without the constant pressure of representation.
Knowledge & Skills:
Excellent, proven script editing experience.
A passion for scripted: television, film, theatre and radio.
Strong knowledge and experience of film and television output and development, including an awareness of material currently in development and potential gaps.
Knowledge of key agents and new talent within the industry, with a proven ability to develop strong working relationships with agents and talent.
Knowledge of script/talent sources and the availability and potential of emerging talent.
An understanding of and the ability to interpret editorial intentions, and to contribute to the generation of ideas and the resolution of script problems.
Excellent communication skills - ability to lead constructive dialogue with sensitivity and tact. The ability to operate flexibly, to work as a member of a small team and to manage a variable workload.
Strong track record of building a development slate, with direct examples of generating and sourcing ideas, internally and externally, and translating them into high-quality scripted series.
A self starter and idea-generator with the ability to work unsupervised, exercising initiative and assessing priorities but referring issues upwards where appropriate.
Resilience and stamina to sustain performance when under pressure from tight schedules and conflicting priorities.
Excellent administrative and organisational skills.

Contract Type: One year fixed term contract
Hours: 9:30am to 6:00pm
