About this role:
The Development Executive role works with the co-Heads of Development, MDs, Executive Producers and Development Assistant to drive development activity at Kudos. You will be a champion for talent and ideas, using excellent editorial judgment. You will be a creative thinker, finding the right projects for the right channels and getting them through to commission. You will play a key part in identifying and nurturing writers and will engage widely with the agent community.
It is vital for the Development Executive to have an understanding Kudos’s Development and Creative Strategy and paid development targets as your role is key within that strategy. The IP and Writers that you are championing should also sit within Kudos’s ambitions.
Duties:
Find innovative ways to generate new IP and work with talent in order to develop exceptional ideas for Kudos which can be given to new and established writers.
Communicate and meet with Agents, Writers, Producers, Directors: showing a high level of awareness of the television market in the UK and internationally, and articulate the current development needs of Kudos.
Write high quality programme specs/pitch documents.
Work with the team of Executive Producers at Kudos, nurturing creative partnerships.
Read submissions, champion excellent writing and have the conviction to know when a project isn’t right for Kudos, write rejections with tact and keeping the door open for future relationships.
Track all projects on the slate and any new developments, answer queries, assess needs and spot opportunities.
Search out and assess potential opportunities for book adaptations.
Find and distribute useful articles and background info e.g. from press/internet.
Organise materials, ideas, and strategies for development initiatives- brainstorms, away days, workshops etc.

Ensure that we create conditions where every person can contribute in their unique, meaningful way and feel safe and secure doing that.
Empower and enable talent from all backgrounds to create work they want and need and deserve to make without the constant pressure of representation.
Read drafts and prepare notes for discussion.
Organise and conduct research. This could involve organising meetings with advisors/professionals who can add value to the development.
Proofing and making any corrections to drafts.
Act as main contact for Writers, set their deadlines and note taking during meetings.
Liaise with Business Affairs and Writer’s Agents when first drafts are completed.
Lead writer’s rooms and have development conversations with Writer for projects if required.
Act as an ambassador promoting Kudos.
Knowledge & Skills:
Excellent, proven script editing experience.
A passion for drama: television, film, theatre and radio.
Strong knowledge and experience of film and television output and development, including an awareness of material currently in development and potential gaps.
Knowledge of key agents and new talent within the industry, with a proven ability to develop strong working relationships with agents and talent.
Knowledge of script/talent sources and the availability and potential of emerging talent.
An understanding of and the ability to interpret editorial intentions, and to contribute to the generation of ideas and the resolution of script problems.
Excellent communication skills - ability to lead constructive dialogue with sensitivity and tact.
The ability to operate flexibly, to work as a member of a small team and to manage a variable workload.
Ability to work unsupervised, exercising initiative and assessing priorities but referring issues upwards where appropriate.
Resilience and stamina to sustain performance when under pressure from tight schedules and conflicting priorities.
Excellent IT skills and familiarity with Microsoft office.
Excellent administrative and organisational skills
